So, today I’m going to talk about routines. I have been preaching setting up a routine for yourself in order to schedule time for writing, or to get up earlier in the mornings.
The thing is, I’m a Gemini, and I have struggled a lot with keeping to a routine.
In short, take the word ‘routine’ with a pinch of salt. I don’t necessarily mean a set routine which needs to be followed in a particular order every day. No. I can’t do this myself. I’ve tried forcing myself, but see, not everyone can keep to a routine.
Routine, in my life, means having a set of things which needs to be done that day, no exceptions. So it might look something like this:
- Wake up
- Contact client for update
- Have breakfast
- Write a to do list
That’s the actual list of things, but I don’t necessarily do them in that order. In my Gemini mind, as long as they get done, it is done. I have stopped trying to force myself to do things in a specific order. And you know what? You get the same result at the end of the day.
So my point is, when I talk about setting a routine, make it your routine. You may love to do things the same way in the same order every day, or you might be like me. It doesn’t matter. But don’t think you can’t ever set routines for yourself, you can, you just need to forgive yourself if you don’t do them the same way all the time.
This is the same for diets and food. I’ve tried to make a list of things I can/should eat, and when. I can never follow it, because I have a very spontaneous mind. If I don’t feel like eating something I planned to eat. I just won’t. In these cases, I make my selection of foods bigger, so I can always find something I feel like eating.
